Solve today’s challenges using today’s tools

The latest in our series of E-business Suite (EBS) webcasts, Unlock the Power of your Oracle E-Business Suite, was a joint webcast with one of the founders of AuraPlayer, Mia Urman.

Mia is a fellow ACE Director, and I have known her for many years, but my area of expertise is with Oracle Fusion Applications, and for Mia it’s more around traditional development tools. So while we became great friends, I didn't really know a lot about what she and her product did.

My impression and understanding was that Mia was always quick to find an angle on whatever new development tool Oracle was releasing, was an advocate for the use cases and then, I assumed, adapted the AuraPlayer product to work with it in the on-premise world. She talked about Oracle Forms. She talked about RPA—Robotic Process Automation. She talked about mobile, chatbots and integration.

Then I moved to Inoapps, who supports organizations that use Oracle across both technology and applications. My role is to make sure that we do the right thing for our customer, and a lot of my time is spent with customers looking at their strategy and organizational roadmaps. And this includes many EBS customers.

So last year I actually attended one of Mia’s sessions for the first time, and I was seriously blown away by what her product does.

AuraPlayer captures any EBS screen entry. It literally records what’s needed to complete the form and then generates an API that can be used to play back that process with parameters for each of the fields. This AuraPlayer generated API is pure magic. It doesn't matter what you are using to call it—the API will complete the EBS form as if you were keying it directly. This means it uses the same validation you’d be using, which means you aren’t compromising the integrity of the application.

The API can be consumed by any of the development tools that Mia was championing, or it can be used by her own RPA product, or your organizational standard such as UiPath. It can be consumed by mobile, by APEX, by Visual Builder. It can be consumed by Oracle Digital Assistant and, in any integration, built in any technology… pretty magical, isn't it?

Auraplayer how it works

This was a lightbulb moment for me and I came back to Inoapps and arranged a demo for our apps technical team. For them, the important factor was that this was backed by the EBS product development team at Oracle.

If you think about it, by capturing the form to create the API, it will include everything that EBS does and everything you’ve customized within EBS. If, when you patch your EBS system, your development has an issue, you simply need to record and generate the API again, and whatever you’re using to consume that API will pick up the new process, which is pretty much upgrade protected.

So, my opinion of AuraPlayer is that this modern technology enables us to solve today’s challenges using today’s development tools on an application that, while fully supported and here to stay for a long time, does have a more traditional technology backbone.

Mia and I did a Vlog earlier in the year, and at the end of last year at the UKOUG annual conference I stood in for her when she was unable to travel to the UK. This recent webcast was to share stories of how you can extend your EBS for your business today.

If you’re now thinking, “hey, I wonder if this could help me with challenge A or problem B,” then get in touch and we’ll show you how it works and can help you with your Oracle E-Business Suite, whichever technology you choose to use to extend it.
