Smarter, faster, future-proof: Modernizing EBS with APEX and AI

At Inoapps, we’ve long believed that Oracle APEX is the smartest way to modernize Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS). It’s fast, flexible, and deeply integrated—no middleware, no extra BI tools. Over the last two decades, we’ve developed a lot of APEX apps to extend EBS functionality. When a customer comes to us with a challenge that EBS doesn’t address, a custom APEX app or extension is often the answer.  

The customization conundrum

Something we often hear from customers is that they can’t move off EBS because of all their customizations. They just can’t justify the move to modernize. Plus, changing technology is daunting, time consuming and costly. 

Which got us thinking… Why not modernize their existing systems with technology they already have?

Meet our new co-pilot: Oracle APEX AI Assistant

Oracle APEX AI Assistant is a powerful new feature introduced in Oracle APEX 24.1 that brings generative AI directly into APEX’s low-code development environment. It helps developers build applications faster and more intuitively using natural language prompts to generate code, debug logic, and even design user interfaces.

Inoapps works with several customers who want to modernize and evolve rather than replace their EBS apps. And APEX AI Assistant is helping us do that—fast.

Take one of our customers in construction who has a customization to manage rentals. They were concerned about their reliance on EBS skills and came to us for a solution.

Our own Inoapps Rentals Cloud product was overkill for what they needed, so we proposed modernizing their code base with APEX.

We used APEX AI Assistant to create a proof-of-concept app, using the backbone of their code to recreate their custom screens. Previously, this would have taken weeks. Now in less than a day we generated the prompt for APEX AI Assistant to build the application, which one of our developers then enriched.

The customer was impressed and we’re now discussing how we enhance this further to replace their EBS Oracle Application Framework (OAF) customized screens permanently. And how we can use APEX to future-proof their EBS.

Building on what works

With APEX AI Assistant, we’re designing and deploying apps based on existing EBS customizations without starting from scratch. We can now rapidly build intuitive modern user interfaces based on proven business processes, using existing database coding and logic

From spreadsheets to smart apps

We’re also using AI Assistant to replace offline, spreadsheet-driven processes with clean, web-based apps. It’s not just about speed, though. It’s about quality. The apps we’re building are smarter, more user-friendly, and easier to maintain than the existing processes. And because they’re built inside APEX, they’re future-proof—ready to scale, extend, and integrate with other systems via built-in web services.
