Integration in the world of Cloud ERP
In the Cloud ERP world we now live in, there are a number of key considerations that any organisation needs to make when planning its data integration strategy for their ERP platform.
Cloud ERP solutions offer fantastic savings in terms of the simplification of the IT landscape, the speed at which solutions can be deployed, and the overall cost of ownership of these business applications. Through the adoption of best practice “Business Processes”, organisations can standardise on vanilla products, and avoid the burden of customisation and bespoke development of their ERP platform – and the resultant overhead of future upgrades costs.
But the reality is organisations still need their ERP solutions to talk to other applications within the business – they still need to be able to integrate with external third party applications, and they must avoid building “Data Silos” of segregated data repositories and disjointed business flows.
So how do you address the issue of ERP Integration in a Cloud ERP world?
It’s all about the planning
The first thing to remember is that there are many many tools, techniques and methodologies available to an organisation to facilitate Cloud ERP Integration. Therefore it is essential that careful planning is carried out at project inception to identify the following:
- Which of my business processes need to span multiple systems?
- What are the data flows across those systems?
- What is the volume, frequency and complexity of the data to be integrated?
- What is the policy for exception handling, resilience and recovery?
- What are the priorities, the roadmaps, the “must haves” and the “nice to haves”?
It is essential that one of the earliest phases of the implementation is to develop an Integration Strategy for your project, and use that as the basis for your integration deployments.
It’s all about the choices

Wherever possible, organisations should look to use the wide range of Standard Cloud Integration utilities that come with the Cloud ERP platform. These offer File Based Loaders, standard interfacing tools and public API’s for inbound and outbound transmission.
These tools offer comprehensive capabilities for the integration of data, but do require manual intervention during the integration process – someone needs to do “something” to make it happen.
It’s all about the pre-built adaptors
But what if you want your integrations to be automated? How can you avoid the need for manual intervention in the interfacing process?
And what if your integration points are between different modules of the Oracle Cloud ERP family – what is the best route of integration between Oracle CRM and Finance modules, or Taleo and HCM. Or how would an organisation deploy an integration between Salesforce and Oracle CRM?

ICS is a fantastic tool for Oracle Cloud ERP Integration, with full support for pre-built adapters, and a strong product roadmap for future releases.
But what if that does not work for you?
ICS offers great functionality, but is not suitable for every requirement. What if your integration needs are based on:
- Integration with bespoke or legacy platforms to which ICS can’t connect
- Timescales that do not fit with the Oracle product roadmap
- Project budgets that cannot fit with the commercial model for ICS
